Powtime!

We've had some more snow since the last trip, and with a couple of days for the new snowpack to stabilize today it was time for another trip.

This time we headed for Andersdalstinden in Lavangsdalen south east of Tromsø. The peak is about 1300 masl (?) and offers a nice big face that often has good conditions, altough a couple of times a year the whole face is washed away by an avalanche that usually goes all the way down to the road... But the pack seemed stable this time.

We started the climb at about 0900 and after about 2,5 hike we stopped, with me last as usual, at about 1100 m. The snow the last couple of hundred metres seemed hard and less skiable, and with the diminishing light it was skins-off time.

The descent was unusually great this early in the season, with about 20-30 cm of fresh pow on top of a soft layer, it was time for full throttle.

Btw, note those beautiful colors in the first picture. The sun has yet to be seen over the horizon, but makes som stunning effects on the sky.

Stay tuned for more tour reports,
- Raggie

Finally winter up north

After months with snow, rain, snow, rain, rain and some more rain, the snow finally decided to stay and th. the 4th. of january I got my first trip for the winter, this time to Skittentind outside Tromsø.

Nowadays daylight is still sparse up north so one have to get up relatively early to get enough light for the descent.

Despite my new touringmode Black Diamond O1 bindings, my legs felt like concrete so I "voulenteered" to stay in the back for the entire trip.

Even though wind had been working the snowpack for weeks, we found some powderlike conditions in the top slope, and my new K2's proved to deal great with changing snow conditons.

Anyways, it was great getting outdoors again, and starting to get rid of fall and x-mas lovehandles.
